Presentation of "Live case on Collective Bargaining" by Sudchemie India (P) Ltd., Eloor

MCMAT organized a live case presentation on Collective Bargaining resulting in a long term settlement for 4 years, in association with M/s. Sudchemie India (P) Ltd., Eloor on Wednesday, on 4th November 2009 at 2.30 pm. The presentation was led by Mr. P Permchand, Vice President, H.R. and Mr. Saji V Mathew, G.M., Personnel, M/s. Sudchemie India (P) Ltd., Eloor. The presentation  highlighted the best HR practices in terms of long term wage settlement in the Company.

This industry-Business school collaborative program was aimed at the students and faculty of Management Science in Kerala State.

This is a National level competition on Management events.

The inaugural function of Fratres 2009 was presided by Mr. R. Radhakrishnan, General Manager, Indian Bank, Kerala Circle Head and the Key Note address was delivered by Dr. Roy Kurian, Vice President, Binani Industries.

MCMAT Quiz on Legs 2009

MCMAT QUIZ ON LEGS 2009 was a talent hunt program that was hosted by MCMAT for the outgoing batch of affiliated arts and engineering college students under MG University. This event was conducted in association with Economic Time on Campus. There was an initial screening test on 5-10-09 at the campus of the students who will be participating. The Grand finale was on 8-10-09 at MCMAT. The winners were given gifts sponsored by Economic Times.

Seminar on the World Bank report - “Doing business in 2010”

MCMAT students organized a seminar on the recent report published by the World Bank on ‘Doing Business in 2010’. Six papers were presented on various dimensions of the report. However, the main empathizes was on the parameters considered by world bank for the ranking, pros and cons of this report, and the possible impact of this report. India has been placed on 133rd position and the seminar has thrown light on the areas with we have to give more attention in the wake of our dismal performance.

The lead talk was delivered by Adv. T. P. M. Ibrahim Khan, Sr. Standing Counsel to Lakhshadeep Administration and Member of Board of Directors of the largest bank in India - State Bank of India. Adv. Ibrahim Khan is also the President of Indian Lawyers Congress, President of Kerala CBSE School Management, National Coordinator of the Minority Education Commission, Chairman, Kerala CBSE School Management Association, and Chairman, Al Ameen Education Trust.

Seminar on 'Ethics of Finance'

This program focused on the financial crisis related to the 'sub prime' and related global issues issues with particular emphasis on the US by Mr. George Varughese, Managing Director of Alvarez and Marsal, a global financial consulting firm based in New York. He was a Managing Director at Credit Suisse First Boston before he joined Alvarez and Marsal. From 1993 to 1995, he was a professor of finance at Indian Institute of Management at Bangalore. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Artsindia and Vellore Board USA and is a member of the Investment Committee of the private equity fund of ICICI.

The National workshop on 'Case Method of Teaching' was well attended by faculty members from 7 leading B-Schools (Management institutions) on 27 April, 2009. Prof. Simon George, Dean, TAPMI, Manipal was very much impressed by the conduct of the workshop. Phase II and III of the workshop are planned for August and October, 2009.

Live Derivatives Workshop in Currency and Commodities

On Saturday, December 6, 2008 MCMAT hosted a one day South Indian workshop on the Global Financial melt down. It provided a hands on experience of online trading of Derivatives in shares, Foreign Exchange, Commodities and especially Dollar and Gold. This was the first event of its kind organized by any MBA college in Kerala.

Personnels from MCEX (Multi Commodity Exchange of India), Mumbai and NSE (National Stock Exchange), Chennai lead the online trading of derivatives hands-on workshop. It was attended by faculty and students from over 15 management institutions in South India.

The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Abraham Tharian, General Manager (International Operations), Federal Bank, Aluva. Mr. M A Mathew, former Head of Personnel Dept. of INDAL also spoke at the event.

The presentations on the Global meltdown was made by Mr. Abraham Tharian and Mr. Ramakrishnan, CEO of Share Wealth Securities Ltd.

The presentations was moderated by Mr. T. T. Thomas, former CMD, FACT and the member of Board of Governors of IIM Kozhikode.

Christmas Message to College Community

The Christmas message will be given to the MCMAT community by Rev. T. V. George, member, Executive Committee of MTEA Society and Vicar of Jerusalem Mar Thoma Church,  Elamkulam, Ernakulam on 11 December, 2008.

First Graduation Ceremony and Convocation

The first graduation/convocation program of MCMAT was a wonderful and colorful occasion, something that will be cherished and remembered by all participating. His Grace Most Rev. Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan, Manager of MCMAT and President of MTEA, came very early and provided the leadership in the organization of the function. Prof. K. Babu Joseph, former Vice Chancellor of the Cochin University of Science and Technology, delivered the graduation address. Prof. Joseph, in his address, explained why the subject is called Management Science. Dr. Rajan Varughese, Director/Principal of MCMAT, delivered a special welcome address for the batch of 2006. Prof. Habeeb Rahiman read out the Graduation Pledge; it was repeated by the 42 graduating students. Metropolitan gave away the Cerificates to the graduates who were wearing the special scarf with MCMAT emblem. Rev. Dr. C. K. Mathew led the Thanksgiving programme.

The colourful ceremony was well attended by the local community and invited guests that included the Governing Council members, Management/Advisory Committee members and Visiting Faculty members of the college.. All the 120 current students also joined the jubilant function.

Inauguration of the MCMAT Alumni Association

The MCMAT alumni association was officially inaugurated on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 as part of the first graduation ceremony and convocation. The first alumni meeting saw the establishment of the first Endowment Scholarship Fund to be contributed by the first set of alumni through the proceeds of Fratres 2007.

Inauguration of MCMAT Live! Forum

MCMAT Live! Electronic Forum was inaugurated on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 as part of the first graduation ceremony and inauguration of the alumni association. MCMAT Live! is a forum designed to bring together the various stakeholders of the college, alumni, current students, faculty, staff, and friends of the college. It will provide ample opportunities for interactions as well as keeping everyone informed about what is happening in the college on a timely basis. But it is much more. We will publish scholarly articles 9as in Harvard Business Review) by faculty and students after careful screening. We will provide opportunities for networking and mentoring. We will provide an opportunity for everyone concerned to improve business communication skills, a very important prerequisite for success in today's business world. The forum is professionally moderated and the membership is free but will be strictly limited to alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends of the college.

FRATRES – 2008

The South India management Fest for 2008 – FRATRES - was held at MCMAT on 14th and15th November 08.

This year fratres became more challenging and hard to fight. Marthoma College of management and technology challenged the participants to come and participate in the various events and win exciting cash awards.

The 7 challenging games tested the contestants' stability, knowledge, tactfulness, sharpness, skills, and personality.

Best Research Paper Presentation Competition

Theme: A slowing global economy - Challenges and opportunities for India.

Cash awards and citation for the winners shall be given at 'FRATRES-09' - the South India Management Fest of MCMAT scheduled on 14th & 15th Nov.09 by the Chief guest of Fratres09.
In-house competition for 'Best Manager'

The college conducted a competition for the title of the Best Manager. The aspiring candidates had to go through several experiential events such as:

* GD
* Marketing Game
* HR Game
* Public speech
* case presentation.
* stress interview
* public defense.

Winners: Mr. Jeemon.V.J of III Sem and George Rajan of I Sem came out as BEST MANAGER for their respective batches.

The citation and prize will be distributed at 'FRATRES -09' - the South India Management Fest of MCMAT, scheduled on 14th & 15th of Nov.09, by the Chief Guest of the programme.

Independence Day Seminar

As part of Independence Day Seminar series, this year on 14.8.2009, MCMAT has conducted a seminar on 'Growth Vs. Inflation: Which one should the Govt address first?'

Dr. Rajan Varghese, Director & Principal welcomed the gathering and highlighted the nuances of calculating various cost of living index as India is experiencing the 13 years highest inflation and the year that has just gone by the Nation had the highest growth of 9.4%, again the highest for 15 years. Several components in Wholesale Price Index, has nothing to do with the common man as regards his cost of living, he observed.

Prof. PA. Habeeb Rahiman , introduced the theme.

Mr. George Thomas, Treasurer of MCMAT & Ex-DGM of Central Bank of India, narrated how important different indexes are and the implications of changes of various components, which constitute Inflation.

The discussion was lead by Mr. P. J. Johney, Chartered Accountant &Proprietor of Johney & Co. He has dealt in detail, how the country has grown from an agro based economy to present day position, where every other nation looks towards India. He narrated how growth is important for the country and the need to accelerate growth, while containing inflation.

In the interface session, that followed, students have actively participated in the discussion.

The seminar came to an end with vote of Thanks by students representative, and singing of the National Anthem.

Monsoon Management Fest

The college just completed the first The Monsoon Management Fest. As part of the program, several luminaries in Management areas visited the college and spoke to motivate the students (especially the new batch).

Monsoon Management Fest was inaugurated by Mr. T.T. Thomas, former CMD, FACT Ltd., on 23 June, 2008.  Rev. Johnson Varghese, Vicar, St. Paul's Mar Thoma Church, Mr. M.A.Mathew, former GM (Personnel), Hindalco and Mr. George Thomas, Treasurer and former DGM, Central Bank of India  spoke during this occasion.

The Management Fest

MCMAT conducted its first Management Fest - Fratres ’07 on 4th and 5th December, 2007. 119 students from 14 Business Schools participated in different events.

Rev. Dr. Johnson P Mathew, General Secretary, MTEA Society blessed the function with his speech. Mr. T.T. Thomas, Former CMD of FACT and Member of Governors, IIM, Kozhikode gave the presidential address. Mr. T Damu, Vice President, Corporate affairs, Indian Hotels inaugurated the function. Mr. P.T. Nandakumar IAS, Managing Director, Kerala Financial Corporation delivered the keynote address. Mr. George Thomas, Treasurer, MCMAT and Prof. P.A. Habeeb Rahiman, HOD, Management facilitated the function.

The events were Fortitudo (Best Manager), Formica (Stock Game), Fabrica (Parasol), Fortuna (HR Game), Fragoris (Business Quiz), Fragrantis (Marketing Game) and Fragmentum (Business Plan).

Academic Council Meeting

The Academic Advisory Council of the college met at MCMAT on September 26. The council has decided to hold its meetings as and when our overseas members visit India. Several important suggestions to improve the functioning of the Management Education in MCMAT were given. Prof. Abraham Koshy, IIM, Ahmedabad, Mr.T.T. Thomas, former CMD, FACT and Mr.T. Damu, Sr. Vice President, India Hotels, Southern Region were among the members attending the meeting.

Prof. (Dr.) Abraham Koshy, IIM, Ahmedabad led a Seminar on "New paradigms in Marketing," This seminar was part of MCMAT Management and Skill Development Program.

Prof Koshy highlighted the sovereignty of the customer, where marketing's needs to be focused from the view-point of the customer. Marketing from the point of view of the producer has become redundant. The session lasted for 3 hours, with an interface session with the students for the last 1 hour.

Our Director, Dr. Rajan Varghese welcomed the house, and Student Representative offered Vote of thanks.

Annual Day Celebrations

Chief Guest for the day was Mr. R. Radhakrishnan (DGM, Indian Bank, Ernakulam Circle). He inaugurated the “New Venture”, “MCMAT Centre For Incubation, Innovation And Enterprise.”

Lead speaker was Adv. Jayasankar, a news analyst of Asianet and India vision and the advisor of Kerala State Housing Board. Adv. Jayasankar inaugurated the program by lighting the lamp.

Adv. Jayasankar led the program “Ask Me” which divided into 8 modules of 10 minutes each. Students presented certain topics and Adv. Jayasankar interacted with the students and cleared their doubts. More Details

HOPES - Orientation Program for Incoming MBA Students

The Orientation program for incoming MBA class was conducted from 18th June 2007 to 30th June 2007. This year, we have redesigned the entire orientation program into a program called HOPES - Highly Oriented Pre-Determined Executive Search. The objective of HOPES was to provide the new management aspirants with the information and tools needed to develop them into successful executives. More Details.

Theme: Financial Contagion. Is India Insulated ?

The sub-prime mortgage crisis, currently on in US has shattered the financial markets from New-York to New-Delhi. The jittering crisis is just unfolding before us.

A subprime mortgage is a home loan a bank gives to a customer who is considered " subprime," which means he or she has a poor credit history or no credit history at all.

He highlighted the need to go in for a comprehensive credit rating system for all mortgage loans to identify, any 'sub-prime' lending in India.
